The English name of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a polyethylene with a molecular weight of more than 1.5 million. Density: 0.936~0.964g/cm3, heat distortion temperature (0.46MPa) 85℃, melting point 130~136℃.

Main features:


Wear resistance, UHMWPE's abrasion resistance ranks first among plastics and exceeds certain metals.

Impact resistance, UHMWPE impact strength, ranks among the best in all engineering plastics.

Self-lubricating, UHMWPE has a very low friction factor (0.05~0.11), so it is excellent in self-lubricating.


Chemical resistance, UHMWPE has excellent chemical resistance. In addition to strong oxidizing acids, it can resist various corrosive media (acids, alkalis, salts) and organic media (except naphthalene solvents) within a certain temperature and concentration range. ).


Impact energy absorption, UHWMPE has excellent impact energy absorption, the impact energy absorption value is the highest among all plastics, so noise damping is very good, and it has excellent silencing effects.


Low temperature resistance, UHMWPE has excellent low temperature resistance, and it is still ductile at liquid helium temperature (-269°C), so it can be used as a low temperature resistant component in the nuclear industry.


Non-sticky, UHMWPE surface adsorption is very weak, its anti-adhesion ability is second only to the non-sticky PTFE in plastics, so the surface of the product is not easy to adhere to other materials.


The water absorption rate of UHMWPE is very low, generally less than 0.01%, which is only 1% of PA6, so it is generally not necessary to dry it before molding.

The density of UHMWPE is lower than all other engineering plastics, generally 56% lower than PTFE, 33% lower than POM, and 30% lower than PBTP, so its products are very light.


Tensile strength, because UHMWPE has the structural characteristics necessary for super-stretch orientation, it has unmatched ultra-high tensile strength.

Other properties, UHMWPE also has excellent electrical insulation properties, better resistance to environmental stress cracking than HDPE, better fatigue resistance and γ-ray resistance than HDPE.


Shortcomings, compared with other engineering plastics, UHMWPE has lower heat resistance, stiffness and hardness, but it can be improved by methods such as "filling" and "crosslinking"; from the perspective of heat resistance, the melting point of UHMWPE (136 °C) is roughly the same as ordinary polyethylene, but because of its large relative molecular weight and high melt viscosity, it is difficult to process.
